Citing Bulandshahr gang-rape, Akhilesh slams UP govt over law and order

Meerut: Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, while referring to a TOI report on horrific Bulandshahr gang-rape, attacked the BJP-led state government alleging that it was “ignoring” rising crime against women.“The BJP government is ignoring rising crime against woman in UP. After the rape survivor’s statement, additional section of 376 D (gang-rape) was included, police said. News of gang-rape is coming every day. The accused beat up the cousin and abducted the girl. She was abducted by four persons and gang-raped in a moving car.

News of gang-rape is coming every day. It is also unfortunate that some people from WhatsApp university have been spreading rumour and hate,” Yadav said.“I demand strict action against all the accused,” the SP chief wrote on his Twitter account.The alleged assault took place on the intervening night of March 10 and 11 when the 13-year-old girl, accompanied by her brother, was returning from a wedding ceremony. The accused beat up the cousin and abducted the girl. She was abducted by four persons and gang-raped in a moving car. A day later, she was found unconscious in a school near her village.Police are yet to make any breakthrough in the case as the four suspects involved in the case are yet to be identified.“Going by the statement of the victim, it is certain that one of the perpetrators is known to the victim. We are yet to identify the accused,” said Manish Mishra, SP (rural).An FIR under IPC sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) was registered against three accused. After the rape survivor’s statement, additional section of 376 D (gang-rape) was included, police said.
