Over Rs 2 crore unexplained cash seized by poll monitoring bodies in a day

On Monday, Bulandshahar witnessed a recovery of Rs 1.06 crore, while in Bijnor Rs 85 lakh unaccounted cash was seized from a vehicle. So, during the drive, we recovered unaccounted cash from two cars. The amount of Rs 85 lakhs is stated to be of cooperative bank and a cash of Rs 12.16 lakh is of a traders. Bijnor/Muzaffarnagar: With polls round the corner, large amount of unexplained cash is being seized by monitoring agencies in various districts of the western UP. On Monday, Bulandshahar witnessed a recovery of Rs 1.06 crore, while in Bijnor Rs 85 lakh unaccounted cash was seized from a vehicle. Another Rs 12 lakh was found from a different vehicle.Apart from this, Muzaffarnagar Police recovered Rs 5 lakhs from a car, again unexplained.The district administrations are on the toes due to the polls and have tightened the grip on movement of cash. The nomination filing process for first phase ended on Monday and all the candidates from different parties have thrown their weight in the political fray to win the support of the people.The candidates cannot spend more than Rs 70 lakhs each during poll season. The candidates have their separate bank accounts for the poll expenditure which are under observation.Several teams have been formed to curb the illegal activities of the candidates to win the support of the voters. During the check, on Monday a flying squad caught Rs 85 lakh from a car and Rs12.16 lakhs in another car.Giving details, Bijnor circle officer (CO) Arun Kumar Singh said, “Flying squad was checking the vehicles on Monday close to roadways bus stand. So, during the drive, we recovered unaccounted cash from two cars. The amount of Rs 85 lakhs is stated to be of cooperative bank and a cash of Rs 12.16 lakh is of a traders. If the authorities and traders failed to show the papers of the money, it will be seized.”In a separate drive, flying squad seized Rs 1.06 crore unaccounted cash in Bulandshahr’s Khurja area on Monday.“The cash was being taken in a car. When the team asked for the papers, car owner failed to show it. Therefore, we had informed the income tax office about the matter and seized the money,” said Abhay Singh, district magistrate of Bulandshahr.
