Dowry death: Man held for killing wife in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar: A man was arrested after his 26-year-old wife was cremated in suspicious circumstances in Muzaffarnagar on Tuesday.By the time, family members of the woman reached, the deceased was already cremated by her in-laws. She had called on March 25 and said that she was being harassed by her in-laws for dowry. Staypal Singh, father of the deceased, said," She was being tortured by her in-laws for dowry. An FIR has been filed in the matter and her parents have alleged that six years into the marriage, their daughter was being harassed for dowry. According to police sources, a case against husband and three other members of his family has been registered under sections 304B ( dowry death ), 201(causing disappearance of evidence of offense) of Indian Penal Code.

They have even alleged that she had called her parents on Monday and said that her in-laws were thrashing her over the demand of dowry.Incident took place in Village Gadanpura in Khatauli police station area where the deceased, identified as Nancy, was found dead at her home. Staypal Singh, father of the deceased, said," She was being tortured by her in-laws for dowry. She had called on March 25 and said that she was being harassed by her in-laws for dowry. But when I along with several relatives approached her in-law's house, we came to know that she had already been cremated.”According to sources, Nancy, a resident of the village Bibipur had married Sanjay of village Gadanpura six years ago. According to police sources, a case against husband and three other members of his family has been registered under sections 304B ( dowry death ), 201(causing disappearance of evidence of offense) of Indian Penal Code. Superintendent of police (city), Satpal Antil, said “Deceased’s husband was arrested and sent to jail.”Similarly on January 6 this year, body of a 42-year- old woman was recovered from the funeral pyre after she was allegedly beaten to death by her in-laws, including husband in Purkazi area.
