Police detain lawyers who were set to protest at PM's rally in Meerut

MEERUT: West UP lawyers who were set to protest at PM Modi’s rally for their pending demand of High Court bench here were stopped from going to the venue and detained by police on Thursday morning.
The lawyers who had placards of ‘We want HC bench’ were stalled from going to the venue.
After a dramatic stand-off between the lawyers and the police, the lawyers were let off only after Modi 's rally got over.
We will utilise the opportunity of the elections and continue our protest for other rallies too,” said Sharma.The lawyers from Western UP had planned to protest at PM Modi’s rally venue to put forward their long pending demand of a HC bench in West UP.
The lawyers showed 'disappointment' over not being able to protest in a democratic countryDevki Nandan Sharma, convenor, central action committee for HC bench, said, “We live in a democratic country and even then we were not allowed to peacefully protest at PM Modi’s rally.
