Farmers protest outside police station for non-payment of their cane dues

The protestors also demanded that the FIRs be registered against the mill owners who fail to pay the dues within 14 days.  

Hundreds of farmers staged a protest at eight police stations in the district against pending cane dues. The farmers were protesting under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU).

There are eight sugar mills under the jurisdiction of these eight police stations that owe over Rs. 900 crore to farmers.

Soon after the protest, he mills announced a payout of Rs. 50 crore. According to BKU media coordinator Dharmender Malik, “We’ve given a deadline until September 6, after which we’ll again turn aggressive.”

Additional district magistrate (enforcement), Amit Kumar, said, “We’re in touch with managements of the mills, and are trying to sort the issue.”

The protestors also demanded that the FIRs be registered against the mill owners who fail to pay the dues within 14 days.
