Man booked for stalking, threatening PhD scholar

Meerut: The police in Baghpat have registered an FIR against a 30-year-old man for allegedly stalking and threatening a girl, pursuing PhD, on Binauli Road at Baraut. The accused also made a video threatening her and circulating it on the internet. The accused, identified as Amit Katta, a resident of Kanhad village under Doghat police station area of Baghpat, has been described as mischievous and unemployed by police.In the video uploaded on the internet, the man can be seen making obscene comments about the girl, warning her family against marrying her to another man and issuing threats of violence, including shooting and acid attacks.Baghpat ASP Manish Kumar Mishra said, A case has been registered against Amit under IPC sections 354, 354B (assault of criminal force to a woman), 504 & 506 and section 67 of IT Act, based on a complaint filed by the victims father. The accused is a 40-year-old man named Kiran Shinde, who works for a private company and has no prior criminal record.
