MEERUT: A 25-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and hanged himself on a tree here. While her family alleged he was having an affair, the mans family claimed that he was suffering from a mental illness. The bodies were found hanging in a sugarcane field in the Parikshitgarh police station area on Sunday. The couple, who got married five months ago, were residents of Mavi village in the city."Around 2pm, the police control room received information that two bodies were spotted in a secluded field. Preliminary investigation suggested that Suraj Kumar killed his wife Priya, 20, and hanged himself," said SP (Rural) Kamlesh Bahadur."Both autopsy reports stated they died of strangulation. After strangling his wife, Suraj called his father-in-law and told him he had killed Priya, and was going to kill himself. The womans family alleged that Suraj was in an illicit relationship with another woman. However, this claim hasnt been proven yet."He added: "During questioning, Surajs family said he was suffering from a mental illness as he behaved strangely but Priyas family wasnt aware of it. No FIR has been lodged."
