MEERUT: At a time when there is uproar over alleged stone-pelter Farooq Dar being tied in front of an Army jeep and paraded in Kashmir, hoardings reading, "'Kashmiriyon Uttar Pradesh chodo, varna...' (Kashmiris, leave UP or else...)" have come up in Meerut and on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in the vicinity of colleges here. The hoardings have been set up by Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena chief Amit Jani in what he called a "protest against the Kashmiris who pelt stones on soldiers of the Indian Army ".Jani claimed to have set up nearly 48 such hoardings in Meerut and on the Delhi-Dehradun highway near colleges where Kashmiri students are enrolled in large numbers. He said that as part of this protest, his organisation's members will ask people of UP to boycott Kashmiris by denying them food, water and rented accommodations."Almost every day, Kashmiris pelt stones at Indian soldiers. I have talked with many students in colleges of Meerut and have got to know that most of the Kashmiri students don't even sing the national song and the national anthem. Kashmiris cannot live normally in Uttar Pradesh when their relatives and friends back in their state are pelting stones on our Army at the border," said Jani."Kashmiris study and work here but are still against India. So why support them at all? We will conduct awareness campaigns to tell people in UP to boycott Kashmiris by not giving them milk, water, newspapers, rented accommodations and admissions. In fact, we will also tell people to remove their bank accounts from Jammu Kashmir Bank. If Kashmiris do not leave UP, we will conduct protest march against them starting April 30," said the UPNS chief.Amit Jani is the same person who had threatened to storm the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus and gun down JNU Students' Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar and research scholar Umar Khalid unless the two left Delhi by March 31, 2016. He was later arrested in May 2016 after being in hiding for around three months. In mid-April, a bag containing a pistol, cartridges and a letter from the outfit threatening to kill the two students was found on a DTC bus.In the last incident against Kashmiris, Subharti University in Meerut had expelled 67 students from Kashmir for celebrating Pakistan's victory over India in a cricket match in March 2014, prompting an inquiry. Talking to TOI, SP (city) Alok Priyadarshi, said, "A case has been filed against Amit Jani under IPC 153 (b) (promoting enmity between different groups) at Paratpur police station and a police team has been formed to arrest him."Y Vimla, dean, students' welfare, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, said, "It is shocking that somebody has put up such hoardings in the city. Kashmir is very much a part of our country and many such students study here in the university. Their security is our prime concern. We will ensure that no harm comes to them."
