MEERUT: Abdur Raheman , 17, was shocked and puzzled when UP ATS picked him up from a mosque here in Shamli on Thursday morning. After being interrogated for more than 12 hours over the fact that he had befriended a terror suspect on Facebook, the teenager was let off and allowed to return home, where he has now sworn to be careful about who he interacts with on social media. As reported by TOI, Raheman, a madrassa student , was picked up by police while offering namaz early in the morning. He spent a total of 15 hours in custody, including a few in transit to Noida, where he was interrogated by at least 15 policemen.Raheman was immensely relieved. "I will be more careful about who I accept on my friends' list on Facebook from now on. During the interrogation I was asked about one Saif-ul-Hind who I had befriended on Facebook. He had also sent me a message, asking me to contact him, but I had not opened his message. I was let off with a warning, since I did not contact him through any social media site or via phone," said Raheman, who was one of the 10 suspected IS members who were picked up across the country. He reached his house at 3 am on Friday.Raheman was born and brought up in Talayi Mohalla of Jhinjhana and used to study at the Islamia Arbia Nuria madrassa here. Abdur Raheman had a Facebook account by the name of Abdulla Ansari and had accepted the friend request of one Saif-ul-Hind just two days ago. The investigators told him the latter had terror links, he said."All of us at home are happy that he is back and our prayers have been answered. I knew my son is innocent and I am glad that he was let off with a warning. I cannot accept treason against the country and if he would have been found guilty, he would have got apt punishment," said Raees Ahmed, father of Raheman. The family was called by the police to Noida on Thursday evening and was told that since Raheman had not read the message from the suspect and hence not contacted him, he was being let off with a warning. The family members were effusive in their praise of the police, who they said treated them very nicely."Since the interrogation went on for quite a long time, I was offered breakfast, lunch and dinner. I will ensure that I do not accept the friend request of any unknown person on Facebook from here on," said Raheman. Police took the contact numbers of the family members and have said that they will be in touch if needed.Avneesh Gautam, station house officer, Jhinjhana, said, "Abdur Raheman has been let off. We cannot say much about why he was suspected to have IS links, since the matter is being investigated by ATS."
