Meerut court defers surrender date of BSP leader Yakub Qureshi’s daughter, 2 others

Meerut: A court here on Monday deferred the surrender date of controversial BSP leader Yakub Qureshi’s daughter after she filed a plea seeking more time to appear before it while citing her poor health.Booked a week ago for allegedly barging into a city public school with a whip and beating up four classmates of her daughter, Asmaa Qureshi had filed a surrender application in chief judicial magistrate court. The court accepted the plea and fixed the date of surrender to July 24 for the three accused.The counsel of defendants told the court that Asmaa has been advised a week-long rest due to “viral fever”.Hari Om Sharma, the lawyer of Qureshis, said, “Due to viral fever and a week-long rest advised by doctor, chief judicial magistrate court has deferred the surrender date. The court has also ruled that her husband and their maid should also surrender on the same date, which has been set for July 24.”An FIR was filed by police against eight persons, including Asmaa, her husband and maid.On Monday last week, Asmaa allegedly barged inside a classroom of Meerut Public Girls’ School (MPGS) with a whip and beat up four classmates of Ramsha-- her daughter. The four students had told their teacher that Ramsha had bunked classes for two days "to be with her boyfriend”.The remaining five accused have been arrested.Meanwhile, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members held a protest on Monday and said that if the accused are not arrested soon, they will hit the streets.
