Tractor trolley with 40 kanwariyas falls into Ganga canal, three dead, six injured

Bijnor: Three people were killed and six were injured after a tractor trolley with 40 kanwariyas fell into east Ganga canal near Bijnor’s Gulalwali village on Tuesday morning. Officials said that a person was missing and rescue operations were underway to locate him.“Three people have died and one person is missing. The driver of the tractor trolley lost control of the vehicle near Sitawali bridge and it fell into the canal.Soon, police was informed by locals, who joined the cops in hours-long rescue operations. Rescue operations are going on. One yatri was missing after the accident.The incident was reported around 8am in an area which comes under Mandawali police jurisdiction.

Officials said that the kanwar yatris were on their way to Haridwar when the incident took place. The driver of the tractor trolley lost control of the vehicle near Sitawali bridge and it fell into the canal.Soon, police was informed by locals, who joined the cops in hours-long rescue operations. Later in the day, three bodies were recovered and the deceased were identified as Umesh Kumar (26), Salikram (55) and Prempal Singh (25), residents of Kalaara village in Bareilly district. Six others were injured and were taken to a primary health centre in Samipur. Officials said that a person was missing and rescue operations were underway to locate him.“Three people have died and one person is missing. Rescue operations are going on. The bodies of three kanwariyas have been sent to the district hospital for postmortem,” Mandawali police station SHO Surendra Singh said.He added that most of the yatris travelling in the tractor trolley belong to Bareilly district. “We have informed their relatives and have also registered a case after receiving a complaint from a victim’s family.”A large number of kanwariyas pass through east Ganga canal in order to reduce the travel time to Haridwar. Soon after the incident, district magistrate Jagat Raj also reached the spot to inquire about the condition of the yatris.Meanwhile, a large number of kanwariyas gathered at the accident spot and created ruckus as the crane which was to lift the tractor trolley arrived an hour late. They alleged police of laxity.However, the local villagers in large numbers helped cops in rescuing the accident victims.
