Father-son held after encounter, illegal weapons, liquor seized

As many as 84 cartons of illicit liquor, liquor-making ingredients, illegal weapons and cartridges were seized from them. The illegal weapons included .315 calibre pistols, a 9 mm pistol, a 12-bore shotgun and over a dozen live cartridges. Also, 10 litres of adulterated liquor, 10 litres of rectified spirit and 1 kg of urea — all of which are used for preparing liquor — were seized from them.“During the encounter, three others managed to flee from the spot. After several rounds of firing between the police and the accused, Sushil Pradhan and his son, Vishal Pradhan, were arrested from the spot.”The police also seized a truck containing 84 cartons of illicit liquor made in Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh besides illegal weapons from the two accused. As many as 84 cartons of illicit liquor, liquor-making ingredients, illegal weapons and cartridges were seized from them. The matter was made public by police on Sunday morning. The duo also has murder cases registered against them at different police stations.According to Meerut SSP Manzil Saini, “The encounter took place after the Partapur station house officer and SP (city) got a tip-off about the duo’s presence in a hideout at one of the houses in a colony here. The police team reached the Oval Green Colony, behind Hotel Highway Residency on Delhi-Dehradun highway, on Saturday night to conduct a raid on the house of one of the accused, Sushil Pradhan. Before the raiding team could enter the house, the accused opened fire at the policemen. After several rounds of firing between the police and the accused, Sushil Pradhan and his son, Vishal Pradhan, were arrested from the spot.”The police also seized a truck containing 84 cartons of illicit liquor made in Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh besides illegal weapons from the two accused. The illegal weapons included .315 calibre pistols, a 9 mm pistol, a 12-bore shotgun and over a dozen live cartridges. One car and two bikes were seized from them. Also, 10 litres of adulterated liquor, 10 litres of rectified spirit and 1 kg of urea — all of which are used for preparing liquor — were seized from them.“During the encounter, three others managed to flee from the spot. Efforts are on to arrest them as most of them have cases of murder, loot, attempt to murder and those under Gangster Act against them,” said Saini.
