Police security beefed up to check security in month of Muharram and Dusshera

Meerut: With the dates of festive celebrations of Dussehra and Durga Puja, and the mourning period of Muharram clashing this year, Meerut SSP held a meeting of police officials to beef up security in the city on Wednesday. It is a mournful period for Shia Muslims as they engage in hurting themselves to mourn the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain. Incidentally, tazias will be taken out on September 30 – which is also the day for Durga idol immersion after Durga Puja.“Companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) will be deployed in sensitive areas of the city starting Thursday,” said Chauhan.” The police officials have been told to remain on a 12-hour duty so as to prevent any untoward incident in the city.“At least 85 processions are expected to take place in the city and to avert any kind of untoward incident, police officials are deployed procession-wise depending on the number of people involved in them,” said SP city Maan Singh Chauhan, detailing about SSP Manzil Saini’s instructions.The processions in the city will begin from September 21 and will end on September 30, which is the tenth day of the month of Muharram.
