Dial 100: UP government releases funds for 1,600 motorcycles

Meerut: A year after launch of the much-awaited Dial 100 facility in UP, that facilitated inclusion of additional vehicles for the police department, the state government has released funds for 1,600 motorcycles to further strengthen its rapid response system.A letter issued by the secretary (home), Bhagwan Swarup, to UP police headquarters recently, read, “Against the demand for Rs 20.99 crore, the total sanctioned amount is Rs 11.33 crore which will be utilized to buy 1,600 motorcycles for the Dial 100 services.”Public relations officer of the director general of police (DGP) office, Rahul Srivastava said, “The police teams will be able to cover more areas with the help of two wheelers. In areas which remain inaccessible by four wheelers, motorbikes can be of good use. We also have several regions which can only be accessed by a boat. In such places, motorcycles can easily be utilized.”The official letter also stated that the consignment of bikes will be procured in the 2017-18 financial year.Dial 100 is the official name of Uttar Pradesh Police Emergency Management System which was launched by former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on November 20, 2016.
