Muzaffarnagar: Riyasat Rana, a Samajwadi Party leader and former chairperson of the State Food & Essential Commodities Corporation (SFECC) has been booked for cheating. He had allegedly taken a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a person after promising to provide him the job of a personal secretary in the corporation. The man is still unemployed.Speaking to TOI, superintendent of police (SP), city, Omvir Singh said, “A case has been filed against Rana under IPC section 406 (criminal breach of trust), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 420 (cheating). An inquiry has also been initiated. Action will be taken against Rana on the basis of inquiry reports.”Rana had served as chairperson in the SFECC from January 2016 till March 2017. “We have been asking Rana for our money for the past six months but to little avail. He even refused to answer our calls,” said Waris Gaoud, resident of Charthawal village in Muzaffarnagar, who was promised the job by Rana. The complaint against Rana was filed by Waris’ father Shahid Gaoud.Meanwhile, refuting the allegations against him, Rana said, “It is a conspiracy against me by political rivals in the SP.”
