Meerut police bust illegal arms factory, 2 held

Around 1:10am on Monday morning, a source tipped us about an illegal arms factory functioning in Sadar area. Meerut: In a major crackdown, Meerut police busted an illegal arms factory in Sadar area early on Monday and seized several weapons, including 18-odd countrymade weapons, 51 barrels, 11 partially made weapons and equipment. Apart from countrymade weapons, arms-making equipment were also seized.“We have seized 18-odd countrymade weapons, 51 small and big barrels of countrymade weapons, 11 half-made weapons, 29 triggers, 29 hammers, two countrymade weapons with .315 bore, a drill machine, iron cutter and other items used to make illegal arms,” said Chauhan On conducting a surprise check in the area, an illegal arms factory was busted,” said SP, city, Maan Singh Chauhan.The two main accused — Noor Hasan and Haroon — who are residents of Mawana and Parikshitgarh respectively were arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Two persons were arrested from the unit.“In the backdrop of the upcoming civic polls and the instructions of the Meerut SSP in this regard, a nine-member team of police personnel was conducting surprise checks of suspected vehicles to see if anything illegal was being ferried.
