Muzaffarnagar: Thousands lined up the streets leading to a banquet hall in the sleepy little town of Budhana, on Tuesday, to catch a glimpse of Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui who arrived in a chopper to canvass for his sister-in-law, Saba Siddiqui, who is contending on a women’s reserved seat for the post of chairperson of Budhana Nagar Palika.Dressed in a blue cardigan and black trousers, Siddiqui sounded the poll bugle with an eight-minute speech. “You can take as many selfies with me as you like because I am a local boy, but vote for the right person. The actor is set to address more political sabhas during his four-day visit to Budhana, beginning November 23.Saba, a Samajwadi Party candidate, is contesting against BJP’s Bala Tyagi, wife of former Budhana chairperson, Jitender Tyagi. “Nawazuddin is a senior member of our family and I am glad that he came for the rally. Nawazuddin aptly narrated a line from his critically-acclaimed movie ‘Manjhi: The Mountain man’: “Bhagwan ke bharose mat baitho, kya pata Bhagwan aapke bharose baitha ho” (Don’t count on God to make things happen, what if God himself is counting on you).“He is a Bollywood actor and can do much for this town’s development,” said Nawab Qureshi, Nawazuddin’s fan and a resident of the town.Several other local SP leaders, including former minister Virendra Gujjar, were also present in the rally.
