Agra/Meerut: In Unnao, controversial BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj failed to cast his vote for civic body polls on Wednesday after his name was found missing from the voters’ list. “It was gross negligence on the part of the state election commission. So, if a persons voted in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, there is no surety that his/her name will appear in the voters’ list for civic body polls as well. In fact, in Kunj Vihar colony near LLRM College in Meerut, the entire population was missing from the electoral roll. Kumar said, “I got up early in the morning so that I don’t have to stand in queue to cast my vote.

Agra/Meerut: In Unnao, controversial BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj failed to cast his vote for civic body polls on Wednesday after his name was found missing from the voters’ list. Speaking to TOI, the MP said, “It’s a conspiracy against me, otherwise there is no explanation for the name of a Member of Parliament not being on the voters’ list.” In another ward of the same city, former Congress MP Annu Tandon, her family members as well as her supporters couldn’t cast their votes. “It was gross negligence on the part of the state election commission. Just months ago, I had voted in the assembly polls,” she said.Some 520 km west of Unnao, several voters in Meerut were also in for a surprise when they reached their respective booths to cast their vote. In fact, in Kunj Vihar colony near LLRM College in Meerut, the entire population was missing from the electoral roll. Incidents of voters complaining of missing names were reported from various other parts of the city as well.Sixty-year-old Raj Kumar, who has voted in several civic body polls earlier, was surprised to find his name missing in his ward in Lisari Gate area. Kumar said, “I got up early in the morning so that I don’t have to stand in queue to cast my vote. Sadly, my name was not on the list. I understand this happening to first-time voters, but when this happens to senior citizens, it seems deliberate.”Meanwhile, Unnao district magistrate Ravi Kumar said, “A probe has been ordered to find out how so many names were missing from the voters’ list.” Besides, two booth-level officers (BLOs) were suspended by the DM after names of the incumbent MP and former MP were found missing from the electoral roll.Ved Prakash Verma, additional election commissioner, UP, said, “The electoral rolls of the Election Commission of India and state election commission are separate. So, if a persons voted in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections, there is no surety that his/her name will appear in the voters’ list for civic body polls as well. The state election commission prepares the polling list for civic polls and panchayat elections.”Verma added, “Before the final polling list is prepared, citizens are given a chance to include their names – and this bit is advertised in newspapers and on news channels too.
