The salaries of over one lakh teachers from state-aided schools have been pending for a fortnight after the Bombay High Court ruling which ordered the state to deposit their salaries in the Union Bank of India. The teacher’s community have decided to protest against the delay on 21 February in front of the deputy director of school education’s office in Charni Road. On February 9, the Bombay High Court had ordered the government to credit the salaries of all the teachers in the nationalized bank, disposing the previous resolution of crediting salaries in Mumbai District Cooperative Bank (MDCB). The teachers have alleged that the salaries have been intentionally delayed as they had moved the High Court against the Maharashtra government’s decision to MDC. Janardan Jangale, president of thje Teachers Democratic Front (TDF) told DNA that the teachers’ salaries were credited to the nationalised Union Bank since 2011. However, the current Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led state government came to power passed a resolution to shift to MDCB after alighting to power. The teachers had raised concerns over the resolution as MDCB is known to have a bad reputation, he added. Vice president of TDF, Rajesh Pandya, said, “Many teachers have to pay their bills, EMI’s, loans and have to bear medical expenses. How will they do anything without their salaries?”
