Mumbai: Boat carrying Congress MLA overturns near Madh Island; one cop injured

A boat carrying Congress MLA Aslam Shaikh and a group of policemen overturned, allegedly due to overloading at Madh island in Mumbai on Saturday evening, it was reported. According to early reports, the occupants of the boat suffered minor injuries. "One of our policemen suffered minor injuries while all the occupants are safe. Mumbai police officials told DNA, that Shaikh, an MLA from Malad, and his entourage had attended Peer Baba’s annual fair. The occupants were saved by the ferry boat crew members," said Deepak Devraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (operations) and spokesperson for Mumbai police.

After paying their respects to the saint, the team was returning when the incident took place. "One of our policemen suffered minor injuries while all the occupants are safe. It is not clear how many persons were onboard. The occupants were saved by the ferry boat crew members," said Deepak Devraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (operations) and spokesperson for Mumbai police.
