The state government will copyright the textbooks published by its bureau, making it mandatory for private publishers who come out with guides and study material for students to seek the state's nod before coming out with such educational tools. "Henceforth, we will copyright the textbooks. This will happen for the first time. The copyright of the textbooks will be vested with the state government. Others (private publishers) who come out with guide books for students (based on these textbooks) will have to take our permission before doing so," said the state education minister, Vinod Tawde. Tawde said that publishers which come up with books listing out expected examination questions may help a student but it affects their education. "Hence, we will come up with supplementary material, which will increase the quality of education," added Tawde. Tawde was speaking in the state legislative assembly on Friday. His statement came after Shiv Sena MLA Sunil Prabhu and others raised the issue of Balbharati's standard X textbooks for science and technology part I and II going viral on Whatsapp before they were published.
