Teenager held for raping classmate

He alleged that Akshay gave her the pills claiming it would help her with her menstrual cycle. The girl’s father has claimed that Akshay had lured his daughter and they had physical relations for over a year. We are now investigating who gave her the tablets,” Mr. Pophere said.

more-in Navi Mumbai: A 19-year-old youth accused of impregnating his classmate and then giving her pills in the seventh month of pregnancy leading to her death and delivery of dead foetus, was arrested by Kalamboli police on Friday night, a month after the incident. The accused, identified as Akshay Dahiphale, was absconding since the incident and was brought back to Kalamboli, tactfully by the police. “Since the incident on February 11, the boy had gone absconding and was working as a waiter in Nagpur. He kept changing his mobile phone and number. We found that he had contacted one of his friends. We took the friend into confidence and made him convince Akshay that he would not be arrested as he was considered minor,” according to Senior Police Inspector Kondiram Pophere from Kalamboli police. The friend also made him believe that his family was being interrogated. Finally, on Friday evening, he reached Kalamboli after which the investigating officer Police Sub Inspector Santosh Pimpale and his team caught him. Akshay who was initially suspected to be a minor, was found to be 18 years and nine months old, as per his Aadhaar card, and was produced before Alibag sessions court on Saturday which remanded him to police custody till March 29. The boy and girl were first year BSc students at a college in Panvel. On the day of the incident, the girl, aged 17 years and nine months, suffered labour pain at home and delivered a dead foetus following which she died due to heavy loss of blood. Her parents rushed her to MGM Kalamboli Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. “Traces of pills meant for miscarriage were found in the blood. The tablets were also found at her home. We are now investigating who gave her the tablets,” Mr. Pophere said. The girl’s father has claimed that Akshay had lured his daughter and they had physical relations for over a year. He alleged that Akshay gave her the pills claiming it would help her with her menstrual cycle. Akshay has been arrested under Sections 314 (Death caused by act done with intent to cause miscarriage), 376 (2/n) (commits rape repeatedly on the same woman), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and sections 3,4,7 and 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
