The Thane police have finally arrested Saurabh Sahu who is the kingpin of the CDR scam busted by them in January this year. Sahu has been involved in similar scams busted by the Mumbai and Delhi police in the past two years. On June 19, Thane crime branch arrested Sahu (34) from Delhi and brought him back to Thane. He was produced in Thane court on Monday which remanded him to police custody till June 29. "Sahu is the provider of CDRs to a majority of detectives arrested by us from January 2018 till now," says Abhishek Trimukhe, DCP, Zone I, Thane police. "More will be revealed as the investigation progresses," he says. The cops have arrested 14 people in the CDR case till now, out of which lady detective Rajani Pandit and celebrity lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui have managed to get bail. In February 2017, he was arrested by the Bandra crime branch of Mumbai police for selling CDRs to Goregaon detective Kirtesh Kavi, another accused in the CDR case. In 2016 he was arrested by the Delhi police for sourcing CDRs and selling them to detectives in Uttar Pradesh (UP). He was imprisoned for eight months for the crime and when he came out he contacted Kavi and sourced CDRs for him again. "It seems like Sahu has progressed in his reach after every arrest. After Delhi, he was involved in Mumbai CDR scam and now in Thane," says a police official from Thane. Buying and selling of CDRs is a crime and they can be obtained by police officials of DCP or superintendent rank. The CDR racket was run in close co-ordination by detectives, software hackers and police officials. In fact two police constables have also been arrested in this case by Thane police.
