Maharashtra government to spend Rs 7,300 crore on repair of electricity poles

Minister for Power, Chandrashekhar Bawankule while replying to a query in the Legislative Assembly in Nagpur on Friday, claimed that maintenance of electricity poles, wires and other systems had not been carried out in the last 30 years. Khed-Alandi MLA Suresh Gore had raised the question about giving compensation to a mother and son who were injured after receiving shock from electric wire lying on the road in Rohkal village in Pune district. Gore had pointed out that the incident took place in the month of May 2018 when the mother-son duo was going on a two-wheeler and fell down after an electric wire touched the vehicle and were electrocuted. In reply, Bawankule said that a junior engineer was suspended in the wake of the incident. Despite several complaints of high tension wire lying on the road, no action was taken by him. Bavankule informed that hospital expenditure would be paid to the family after district civil surgeon gives a certificate to the family after treatment is over. He informed that in last 30 years there has not been overall comprehensive maintenance and repair of power distribution infrastructure in the state. He informed that this plan would be finalized soon.
