The Ulhasnagar police have arrested a school teacher for molesting a female student. The 12-year-old-girl had gone to collect her transfer certificate on July 13, when the teacher dragged her by her hand and took her to an empty office. There was no one in the school and the alarmed girl quickly ran home, and approached the cops later. The incident happened on Friday at around 10.30am when Savita (name changed) went to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru school number 27 at Ulhasnagar 1 to collect her transfer certificate. “The school is till class VII and the girl needed the TC so that she could take admission for class VIII elsewhere,” investigating officer MV Chaudhary, Ulhasnagar police station, said. At that time, there was no one in the school and even the principal was on leave. The teacher Vijay Dhandar approached the girl, caught her hand and took her to the principal’s office. “He told her that he would help the girl get her TC. But the girl got so scared that she ran home,” he said. The girl does not have parents and stays with her 21-year-old sister, who is also her guardian. She narrated the incident to her sister, who then went to the Ulhasnagar police station to lodge a complaint. Dhandar has been booked under POCSO (Prevention of crime and sexual offences against children) Act and 354 (a) of the Indian penal code. He was arrested the same evening and will remain in police custody till July 16.
