Sacked journalist tried to blackmail editor: Cops

He said that she claimed to have evidence of his misbehaviour with her which she threatened to make it viral,” Tehzeeb Kazi said.

MUMBAI: A woman journalist booked for abetting suicide of the editor of a Hindi publication in Indore had allegedly demanded Rs 5 crore, threatening to implicate him in false cases, police sources say.Saloni Arora was booked on July 20, over a week after Kalpesh Yagnik, national group editor of the Hindi publication, jumped off the roof of the three-storey building on Indore’s A B Road that houses the office of the newspaper.Arora worked with the newspaper from 2007 and was sacked in January this year. “Arora was miffed with Yagnik after being sacked. The FIR was registered against her based on initial investigation and statements of Yagnik’s relatives,” Tehzeeb Kazi, in charge of MIG police station (Indore), told TOI.On Friday, an Indore police team, along with Amboli cops, visited a flat at Shastri Nagar in Andheri (West) where Arora resided. However, the flat was found locked. She fled when she came to know about the police visit, sources said.“The police in the presence of five witnesses entered the flat using duplicate key which they got from the flat owner,’’ an officer said.
