Mumbai on Sunday got another cycle track. This time it was at JVPD, next to Kaifi Azmi Park. The local residents of Juhu have created a 2.4-km-long cycle track in the area. While the track was created, it had its shares of problems which the residents hoped to be sorted sooner. Being next to a nullah, chances of cycling enthusiasts meeting with an accident are high. The barricading wall of the cycling track that separates them is barely tall to avoid untoward incidence. Secondly, the cycling track, considering its close proximity to the main road, will have to face heavy vehicular traffic at peak hours. It needs either an underpass or flyover, said some residents for a smoother and safer cycling experience. On July 22, the residents of Juhu and JVPD opened this cycle track which was inaugurated by MP Javed Akhtar and MLA Ameet Satam. "We saw that the boundary wall is low. I will ensure that either its height is raised or nets are placed," said Satam. There are locations where iron rods holding the cemented wall is also protruding. The locals who have managed to get this cycle track running, state that very soon this wall will be raised. "These walls are temporary. We will be raising them after building a new wall. Plus four bridges will be built above the nullah on this entire stretch. We are also in talks with the authorities for having an underpass or flyover above the link road," said Samarth Das, architect, who has played a pivotal role in getting this cycle track ready. This cycle track, creating a small garden, walkway, streetlamps and other amenities on the entire stretch is being done at a cost of Rs 24 crore. It has been funded by MP Akhtar under the MPLAD funds. As of now, around 75 percent work is complete. On the day of inauguration, many children were seen riding bicycles. The parents were of the view that this cycle track will encourage physical activity for kids who otherwise play sports on mobile phones and gaming consoles. The kids from neighbouring slums too participated in the inaugural ceremony. The MMRDA had started After a failed attempt at BKC which failed miserably. ON THE TRACKS
