Former Cricket Captain Ajit Wadekar Cremated, Sachin, Kambli Pay Last Respects

On the same day when former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was cremated at Smriti Sthala, Delhi, former Indian cricket captain Ajit Wadekar was also cremated in Mumbai.

Wadekar, who died on August 15 was cremated at the Shivaji Park crematorium on Friday with full state honours. His body was kept at his Worli residence for family and friends to pay their tributes to the late cricket captain.

Cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Vinod Kambli, Sameer Dighe and others offered their prayers and condolences.
BCCI general manager (Cricket Operations) Saba Karim also paid tributes on behalf of the Cricket Board.

Wadekar, who led the team to path-breaking Test wins in England and the West Indies, passed away after prolonged illness. He was 77 and is survived by his wife Rekha, two sons and a daughter.
