Country-wide women’s campaign for peace

In order to galvanise women and men to propagate peace, justice, non-violence and love and safeguard constitutional values, a campaign called ‘Baatein Aman Ki’ will be held between September 20 and October 13, across the country. The campaign is being funded through donations from ordinary people and women’s groups. On October 2, a Gandhi Peace March will be conducted from Grant Road station to Mani Bhavan, the focal point of Gandhiji’s political activities in Mumbai at 8.30 a.m. This will be followed by an interfaith prayer service outside Mani Bhavan, speeches by the women travelling in the caravan and songs that celebrate peace and justice will be played. Over 150 organisations, including Anhad, National Federation of Indian Women and others are working to host groups of women who will travel across 200 towns and villages in India.

After this there will be a visit to Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal and Chaitya Bhoomi — memorial of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, chief architect of the Indian Constitution. Between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. community interactions in Jogeshwari, Andheri, Bandra, Govandi and Madanpura have been planned. The day will end with a cultural programme at the Sophia Bhabha Auditorium, Breach Candy. Performances by Mita Vashisht, Nandita Das, Poorva Naresh, Sanjana Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Stop-Gaps Choral Ensemble, The Banned — a protest music band and others has been organised between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
