Special police teams to keep check on noise pollution

To keep a check on noise pollution during Ganesh festival, the Navi Mumbai Police have trained 47 officers and 131 police staff to check the decibel levels at the Ganesh mandals. Our Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad has been conducting 12 search operations a day at public mandals to ensure security.” A total of 409 idols from public mandals and 21,720 private idols are expected to be immersed on Sunday. Navi Mumbai has 831 public Ganesh mandals and 82,844 private Ganesh idols. Of these, 422 idols belonging to public mandals and 61,124 private idols have been immersed.

Till now, notices have been issued to 444 Ganesh mandals and four Dolby system owners. Besides, action was taken against 15 Ganesh mandals who did not take cognisance of the notices issued. Strict action Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said, “Each police station has a team of six people to look into noise pollution during the festival. They will be equipped with two fully calibrated decibel meters. Those found flouting norms will be issued notices and action will be taken. The Dolby systems will be shut down.” Before the festival started, the police had conducted 72 meetings with mandals and nine meetings with Dolby system owners. Navi Mumbai has 831 public Ganesh mandals and 82,844 private Ganesh idols. Of these, 422 idols belonging to public mandals and 61,124 private idols have been immersed. A total of 409 idols from public mandals and 21,720 private idols are expected to be immersed on Sunday. To avoid untoward incidents, six Deputy Commissioners of Police, eight Assistant Commissioners of Police, 67 Police Inspectors, 205 Assistant Police Inspectors and Police Sub Inspectors along with 2130 staff will be deployed. Eight striking force units with 160 staff members, one Quick Response Team, two teams of Riot Control Police, one platoon of State Reserve Police Force and 28 Home Guards will also be stationed. Additional cameras Mr. Kumar said, “We will be keeping a watch on the processions with the help of 573 CCTV cameras installed at various parts of the city. Six additional CCTV cameras have been installed. Our Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad has been conducting 12 search operations a day at public mandals to ensure security.”
