Having grilled 25-year old Sarfaraz Shaikh, accused of allegedly murdering HDFC Bank executive Siddharth Sanghvi, for 12 days, the police could not recover Sanghvi's stolen wallet. The police had earlier claimed that Shaikh had assumed Sanghvi could be carrying at least Rs 35,000 on his person, which drove him to rob the latter. Meanwhile, the Bhoiwada metropolitan magistrate court sent Shaikh to judicial custody till October 5. "During his entire police custody, Shaikh did not reveal anything about Sanghvi's wallet. We don't know exactly what material was there inside his wallet at the time, or what the person did with it after robbing it," a police officer said. According to the NM Joshi Marg police, on 5 September, Sanghvi had left from his Kamala Mills office, but when he didn't reach home, his family approached the police. On September 7, his car was found in Koparkhairane. The police had arrested Shaikh for his involvement in Sanghvi's disappearance. He had then claimed that he murdered Sanghvi following a failed robbery attempt. "Shaikh had tampered Sanghvi's car door to ensure nobody could unlock it. We had to use a duplicate key to get in. Phone records and inputs provided by the Navi Mumbai Police pointed to Shaikh's involvement," said a police officer.
