Railway guard molestation: Cops, rlys squabble

KALYAN: A 22-year-old female guard was molested on a goods train, where she was posted, by two persons at Kalyan railway yard on Thursday. Police said the train had stopped due to a signal when the two entered, molested her and fled. GRP sources said part of the railway yard comes under city police jurisdiction but they have always refused to take cognisance of offences there. Kolsewadi police claimed the incident took place under railway jurisdiction and transferred the case to Kalyan GRP. For two days, city police and railways, instead of searching for the accused, had been fighting over jurisdiction.

Police said the train had stopped due to a signal when the two entered, molested her and fled. Kolsewadi police registered a molestation case against two unidentified persons. For two days, city police and railways, instead of searching for the accused, had been fighting over jurisdiction. Kolsewadi police claimed the incident took place under railway jurisdiction and transferred the case to Kalyan GRP. But Kalyan GRP claimed the area was not under their jurisdiction and that they did not receive any case from the city police.A senior railway official said they had taken serious note of the incident and had instructed city police and railway police to immediately arrest the accused.The incident has came to light at 7.30pm, when the train from Kasara was on its way to Kalyan railway station and it stopped near signal 35.The victim said that when the train stopped, two persons entered the compartment and molested her. She said she raised an alarm, after which both fled. She approached Kolsewadi police, who registered a case against the two under sections 354 and 34 of Indian Penal Code Senior inspector Kavi Gavit of Kolsewadi police station did not reply to calls and text messages. Assistant commissioner of police D B Kamble, said he would instruct his staff to nab the culprits as soon as possible.Several crimes have been committed at the yard. Last year, a commuter was killed in the subway under the yard, while a businessman was robbed at knife-point.City police had decided to increased patrolling in the area. GRP sources said part of the railway yard comes under city police jurisdiction but they have always refused to take cognisance of offences there.
