This was made possible as we had installed close to 100 CCTV cameras at the 10 most visited immersion sites such as Vashi, Nerul, Belapur, Koparkhairane among others. During all the immersion days, the crowd movements were closely monitored in the CCTV control room, and if any citizens were found getting too close to the water, our volunteers were immediately alerted to take the people, especially women and children, back to a safe distance while they bid adieu to Lord Ganesha,'' said a civic spokesperson.Of the 8779 idols immersed on the final day, 526 were the big sized 'sarvajanik' (public) Ganpatis while the remaining 8253 idols were of individual households. Officials further said that CCTVs were especially installed at immersion sites like Vashi sector 6, Turbhe sector 19, Agroli and Chincholi ponds at Shiravane, Koparkhairane, Rabale, Diva, Dighe, among others.
