Marine Drive Police have arrested a 51-year-old businessman for allegedly duping a media baron to the tune of Rs 3.75 lakh on the pretext of providing him with VIP number sim card. The arrested person has been identified as Sureshkumar Golecha, a resident of Shubham Apartment at Vile Parle (W). Speaking on the case, a police officer, on the condition of anonymity said, "Last year, victim's employee had approached police and had lodged a complaint stating that some had induced the victim to pay Rs 3.75 lakh on the pretext of providing him VIP Sim card of a telecom company. The victim had deposited money through net-banking." The Marine Drive police had then registered a case under sections 419 and 420 of Indian Penal Code and sections of Information Technology Act. "Since we were unable to trace the suspect in the case, we had filed an A-summary report in the court wherein the police close investigation into cases temporarily or permanently by filing summary report in the court. We then learnt that Golecha was recently arrested by Amboli police in a similar fraud case wherein he had duped someone on the pretext of providing a VIP Sim card. After this we again approached the court and re-started our investigation," the officer said. The police sources claimed that Golecha is suspected to have duped several persons in similar manner and used to change his names while approaching the victims. "We have arrested Golecha last Friday in our case as we suspect his involvement in our case. We are interrogating him further to ascertain how many persons he has duped and are also scrutinising his bank account details," the officer said.
