Mumbai: 4 drunk men who beat TV journalist, arrested

Four people have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a television journalist outside his south Mumbai residence on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. According to the police, victim Herman Gomes had taken a cab on Saturday late night from Bandra. Those arrested have been identified as Nilesh Khedekar (20), Hemant Chogle (30), Siddhesh Parab (19) and Avinash Amle (26).

Those arrested have been identified as Nilesh Khedekar (20), Hemant Chogle (30), Siddhesh Parab (19) and Avinash Amle (26). While Khedekar and Amle are Malabar Hill residents, Chogle and Parab are residents of Tardeo area. According to the police, victim Herman Gomes had taken a cab on Saturday late night from Bandra. He was accompanied by his friend, a resident of Byculla. After dropping Gomes home, his friend was to take the cab to Byculla. The accused, meanwhile, left the bar in an alcoholic state, and were looking for a taxi to return home. They approached the cab, which was already engaged by Gomes’s friend, and tried to push him out. Gomes tried to reason but in vain. Later, the accused got indulged in a heated argument which turned into a scuffle. “The victim sustained some bruises and his friend sustained some minor injuries. The incident was not pre-planned. Immediate action was taken when the victim approached the police. The accused do not have any political affiliations and no criminal record as such,” said additional commissioner of police, south region, Pravin Padwal.
