Mumbai's Metro Inox becomes 1st multiplex to go solar

Metro Inox — Mumbai's iconic heritage cinema — recently launched two screens, which are 100 per cent solar powered, thus becoming the first multiplex in India to join the solar revolution. The landmark SoBo theatre has eight screens total, of which two will now use the solar technology. Mitigating 282 tons of CO2 during its operational life, the solar project will significantly contribute to protecting the environment. With this, the multiplex's carbon footprint will be equivalent to planting 4,526 teak trees. Siddharth Jain, Director, INOX Group said, "This is one of our many firsts in the Cinema Exhibition Industry. We are happy to be a part of the solar revolution and what better than to start it with our heritage property." The system is expected to annually generate a total of 1,33,000 electric units. In its operational life of 25 years, the project will have generated about 33,00,000 units of clean and green energy. A statement released on the behalf of Gupta family of the Metro Realty group says, "We are extremely proud to announce the inauguration of the first 100 per cent solar-powered cinema in India. This is our commitment to the solar revolution in India. As for Mumbai, we believe this will act as an inspiration and precedent for other developments and other areas of the city to go solar."
