The Maharashtra government has sought help from the local political leaders in Navi Mumbai to convince people opposing rehabilitation for Navi Mumbai airport project. On Sunday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis urged the local leaders, as well as chairman of City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), Prashant Thakur to sort out issues with the locals who are opposing the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) city plan. The state government proposed an integrated mobility plan for NAINA along with its development. "We will be including an integrated mobility plan in the integrated development plan for NAINA wherein railway network, metro rail and roads will be well connected. We are also working out 1 lakh low-cost homes for people here. For Navi Mumbai airport, rehabilitation plans have been planned but unless few people disagreeing NAINA are not convinced; the deadlines of the new airport would not be met," said CM Fadnavis. The CM also said that a transit-oriented development is also in cards wherein nearly 40,000 homes shall be built near railway stations and metro rail stations. This, according to him, will help promote public transport. The CIDCO, which is a special planning authority, had prepared a blueprint for NAINA, that would be spread over 600 sq km. "The state government has promised to accommodate people for rehabilitation up to December 31, 2015. We want the railways to also extend the rail network till Uran," said Prashant Thakur, chairman, CIDCO. The CIDCO officials said that they will soon call notifications for further development of the airport. They are also working on a cluster policy for improving housing there. As per plans, there shall be metro rail connecting Taloja, the proposed railway station of Targhar will also connect south Mumbai as there is a waterway proposed all the way.
