Narayan Rane Narayan Rane THE BOMBAY High Court recently quashed an FIR filed against former chief minister and Maharashtra Swabhiman Paksha leader Narayan Rane, his associate Ravi Shendge and MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar while directing them to pay Rs 50,000 to the Tata Memorial Hospital. The FIR was filed in 2002 following a complaint by NCP leader Padmakar Valvi, who had accused the three of attempting to topple then Vilasrao Deshmukh government in the state. Valvi had claimed that in June 2002, he was abducted, threatened and illegally detained at a Jogeshwari club on the day the Deshmukh government won a vote of confidence in the state Assembly. He had alleged that the accused had insisted that he write to the Governor, seeking to withdraw support to the Deshmukh government. Rane, Nandgaonkar and Shendge had approached the court seeking quashing and setting aside of the criminal proceedings pending before Metropolitan Magistrate, Esplanade. Following this, in an affidavit filed before the court, Valvi had claimed that “due to passage of long time between the alleged incident”, he and the petitioners had forgotten about their differences and now share cordial relations. “During our tenure as ministers, we had decided to put an end to our differences, not only with petitioner no. 1(Rane) but with other petitioners (Nandgaonkar and Shendge) also,” he added. Valvi also said that he doesn’t wish to proceed against the petitioners as “we have decided to amicably put an end to our dispute…”. While hearing the case on last month, a division bench of Justice Ranjit More and Justice Bharati Dangre, said: “…we find it would be appropriate to saddle the petitioners with the cost of Rs 50,000, which shall be paid to Tata Memorial Hospital, an institution that takes care of the advanced and terminally ill cancer patients (sic).” For all the latest Mumbai News, download Indian Express App
