MUMBAI : Suburban services running between Dombivli and Kalyan stations have been suspended from 9.15 am to 3.45 pm. This is because the Central Railways has commenced the work to demolish a British era structure, the Patri Pool bridge, near Kalyan.“During the block period, services will be run between Kalyan and Karjat / Kasara stations. Special services will be run between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Dombivli / Thane,” said CR chief spokesperson Sunil Udasi The work to remove the bridge is expected to be over by 3.30 pm. Many trains have been cancelled or rescheduled/rerouted. The traffic on the Mumbai-Nashik rail sector is likely to be affected too.Said Udasi : “We are running 178 special local (earlier notified 120) services between Kasarat/Karjat/Khopoli and Kalyan & between CSMT and Dombivali.”On railway’s request, KDMT has planned special bus services every 10 - 15 minutes between Kalyan and Dombivali. The MSRTC will ply 25-30 special bus services for Pune and Nasik to compensate cancellation of intercity trains.“Frequent announcements are being made for benefit of commuters and senior officers have been stationed at the site and in control office for monitoring smooth execution of work. At Kalyan, Dombivali, Thakurli, Bhiwandi Road, Diva and Vithalwadi stations, four staff each have been deployed to ensure all assistance to passengers at these stations,” said Udasi.“We endeavor to provide best possible passenger amenities and infrastructure upgrade through this six hour block,” he added.Due to the demolition work, seven long-distance trains have been cancelled.
