Authorities in Bidhoona tehsil in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district were taken by surprise when they found that Ajmal Kasab, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack convict who was hanged in Pune’s Yerwada Jail 2012, was issued a domicile certificate. According to a report by The Times of India, the records at Bidhoona tehsil shows Kasab was issued a domicile certificate, and after preliminary probe, the district authorities cancelled the certificate and suspended the concerned revenue officer while ordering a investigation into the serious lapse. Pravendra Kumar, DSM of Bidhoona, has confirmed that a domicile certificate has been issued against a submission of fake documents by some unidentified person. He said the application was submitted along with a photo of Kasab in October this year for issuance of the domicile certificate and officials, without cross-checking the facts and background, issued the certificate. Kasab, the lone Pakistani gunman caught alive after the Mumbai terror attack, was hanged to death in a top-secret operation on November 21, 2012, less than a week before the fourth anniversary of the carnage. The execution in the Mumbai attack trial brought closure to many people affected by the audacious strike by 10 terrorists of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, (LeT) in which 166 people were killed. Nine LeT men were killed during the 60-hour siege which began on the night of November 26, 2008.
