Mumbai: Government notifies rule enabling conversion of lease hold land to saleable plot

  • | Tuesday | 20th November, 2018

The state revenue and forest department on Monday notified the rule under which leased out lands will be converted for sale. On September 25, the state government had approved a plan for thousands of acres of prime public land, currently on lease, across Maharashtra, which will now be up for sale. Sources said the sale of the land is expected to generate Rs 20,000 crore as revenue. Suggestions and objections on the rule will be accepted till December 18. While a section of activists has questioned the government’s move to dispose of public land itself, eyebrows are being raised over the cabinet’s move to permit such ownership transfers at concessional rates.
