Meera Sanyal, AAP leader and former chairperson of RBS India, dies

She had earlier contested as an independent candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the Mumbai South constituency. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Meera Sanyal, who also served as CEO and chairperson of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) India, has passed away at the age of 57, according to AAP leaders. She passed away at 8 pm at her south Mumbai residence and the funeral is a private affair. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Meera Sanyal, who also served as CEO and chairperson of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) India, has passed away at the age of 57, according to AAP leaders. Sanyal had joined the Aam Aadmi Party after quitting her job, and contested the Lok Sabha election from South Mumbai in 2014 which she lost. She had earlier contested as an independent candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the Mumbai South constituency. AAP leader and Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia confirmed her death in a tweet, saying the country has lost a sharp economic brain and a gentle soul. You will forever remain in our hearts. — Manish Sisodia (@msisodia) January 11, 2019 In her 30-year-old banking career before surprising all by plunging into politics, the Kochi-born Sanyal had also served as the head of corporate finance and chief operating officer for ABN Amro for Asia. She bravely fought cancer for over two years now but God claimed her this evening. I pray she is free from pain and in everlasting peace. She passed away at 8 pm at her south Mumbai residence and the funeral is a private affair. Will share details of a prayer meeting shortly," said AAP's national executive member Preeti Sharma Menon.
