On Thursday, 12 students from the editorial club of Mount Litera School International, visited the DNA office located in Lower Parel. Senior editors in the newspaper gave the students a brief introduction to journalism and newspaper production. We met the Editor in Chief, Yatish Rajawat, who informed us about the tips and precautions teenagers need to take while browsing the internet. Today's age, as he informed us, is full of fake news and people who spread rumors, that is why we need to always use information from a reliable and credible source. The trip became more interesting as the students were taken through the flow of a typical day in the office. We visited the desk and saw how news stories from all over the country were processed. We first visited the editing area, where groups of editors sat, held discussions, and selected appropriate pictures as well as crafted catchy headlines for stories. Lucid language, as well as reader-friendliness of stories, was emphasised. We met sports editors and political news editors. We were informed about the multiple editions of the newspaper as well its supplements. We also saw the different editions that make up the DNA newspaper set: the main booklet, that comprises of all the major news and sports, DNA Money and DNA After Hours. We also met senior reporters, who informed us about judicious use of their resources to provide the editors with stories. They also told us about the kind of people they have to meet to complete the story. We learned about how cross-checking of facts and figures is done to ensure correct information goes out to the readers. The visit was also special as the staff shared their personal experiences and informed us as to how during the late night production hours the newsroom turns into a bustling space. In all, this experience was a great opportunity for us to learn more and to us being in the editorial club, this experience may help us to improve our school's newsletter by taking tips from some of the best in the field. We on behalf of the students of Mount Litera School International would like to thank DNA for the amazing opportunity we were given.
