Crime branch unit 12 has arrested a man for raping a woman with learning disabilities for four months. The incident came to light when the woman complained of intense pain in her abdominal area. Accordingly, a case was registered in Kurar on January 9. According to police sources, the woman was raped by an unidentified person between September and December. However, she could not inform anyone about the incident owing to her disability to communicate and understand. On January 8, she experienced excruciating pain in her abdomen area, following which she confided in her mother about the incident. Shocked by the revelation, the woman's mother approached Kurar police station the next day to lodge a complaint. Considering gravity of the crime, the case was simultaneously investigated by Crime Branch Unit 12. Four police teams were formed by crime branch officials and each investigated a different angle of the crime. While one team checked on the woman, who was undergoing treatment at the state-run JJ Hospital, the other teams did a background check on all the past and present residents in her vicinity who could have been involved in the case. Acting on a tip-off, police realised a 24-year-old youth was missing from the area since the day a complaint was lodged with the police. The police then pulled up the Call Data Records (CDR) of the youth and traced his location to his uncle's residence in Virar (E). On Thursday, police laid a trap in Virar and arrested the youth and booked him for rape (section 376) of the Indian Penal Code, said a police officer.
