A day after the father and son duo were mowed down by a truck in Ghatkopar, the local residents have hurled allegations of negligence against the Municipal authorities, which, they allege, has made the area notorious for similar accidents. “Local authorities of Laxmi Nagar have raised the issue before the municipality officials. According to the residents, a few roads in Ghatkopar east including Andheri Ghatkopar Link Road (GALR), Laxmi Nagar and Laxmi Baug have irregularities due to which vehicles especially two-wheelers tend to lose balance and slip on the road. We, the residents of Laxmi Nagar have to commute to the west regularly since most amenities like schools and markets are absent in the east. Speaking more on the issue, Rakhi Jadhav said, “The aim is to provide better connectivity while keeping the roads safe.

A day after the father and son duo were mowed down by a truck in Ghatkopar, the local residents have hurled allegations of negligence against the Municipal authorities, which, they allege, has made the area notorious for similar accidents. The deceased duo identified as were on their way home on a scooter when were run over by a truck from behind after the scooter lost balance due to irregularities in the road, they alleged. According to the residents, a few roads in Ghatkopar east including Andheri Ghatkopar Link Road (GALR), Laxmi Nagar and Laxmi Baug have irregularities due to which vehicles especially two-wheelers tend to lose balance and slip on the road. “Local authorities of Laxmi Nagar have raised the issue before the municipality officials. Following an accident in which a school bus ran over two children, local corporator Rakhi Jadhav and other volunteers had proposed to build an underground subway for better connectivity from east to west, which was approved by BMC. Three years later, the subway is still under construction,” said Amey Teli, a local resident. Speaking more on the issue, Rakhi Jadhav said, “The aim is to provide better connectivity while keeping the roads safe. We, the residents of Laxmi Nagar have to commute to the west regularly since most amenities like schools and markets are absent in the east. However, all our trips to the west are doomed. The sides of roads are made of paver blocks which are arranged in an uneven manner due to which the edges are irregular thereby making the entire construction faulty.” “Also the potholes and gaps in the roads add to the nuisance. The contractors and engineers should be answerable and we demand imposition of criminal liability on defaulters,” Jadhav added. ALLEGATIONS
