MUMBAI: Swiss couple, Madeleine (46) and Christof Siffert (47), traveled all the way to Mumbai to participate in the marathon , to spread awareness on children’s education from the Vaidu community.“There were many out-of-school children from the community. An NGO is fighting for its cause and we are supporting it by raising funds through participation in marathons. The NGO has managed to get 423 school drop-outs back to school. About 70 are still out of school,” said Madeleine.“Changing the mindset of the people is a problem and we are trying to raise awareness through such marathons,” said Madeleine. Though the marathon in Mumbai was only for awareness, back home, the couple raise funds for the NGO too. This is the second time they have participated in the Mumbai marathon. Madeleine completed the full marathon in 3 hours 51 minutes on Sunday, about 10 minutes faster than last year. She even stood 17th in the overall women’s category. “The weather here is not quite favourable for us, but we loved running here and decided to come back,” she said.Christof, a physical therapist, runs his own clinic in Switzerland , and Madeleine helps in the administration work. Despite having a girl child, who is 17 now, the couple had adopted a boy from Mumbai 14 years ago.
