It seems that the appeal made by many parents of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) students to reinstate internal exams of 20 marks for Social Science and language papers has gone on deaf ears. Recently, the Maharashtra State Board Education department chairperson and Balbharati director had written a letter to the Education department to rethink on the parents' demand of reinstating internal exams of 20 marks of Social Science and language papers for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) students. However, the schools have received marksheet only to conduct internal exams for Science and Maths for this year's SSC board examination. Recently, parents led a protest with Yuva Sena members at State Board office in Pune, forcing State board chairperson Shakuntala Kale and director of Balbharati to write a letter to higher authorities of the education department. The letter stated that due to the cancellation of internal exams in Social science and language papers, SSC students and their parents are under tremendous pressure. Parents feared that their SSC students would lose out on good marks in the board exam compared to other students from other boards. This decision may deprive students of getting good colleges during FYJC admission, claimed Yuva Sena in their past protest. A principal from leading schools in the western suburbs said that they had received marksheet material from the state board to conduct internal exams for Maths and Science subjects only. Another principal Rashmi Shah, said, "We don't think there will be any changes in the board's decision."
