The chickens have come home to roost for the Shiv Sena. After running a campaign of diatribe and verbal duels with their so-called bete noire BJP, Shiv Sena on Monday cocooned itself in pre-poll alliance with the latter. The latest in a range of salvos that party chief Uddhav Thackeray was, when at a public rally in Pandharpur, he narrated a farmer's anecdote. The farmer told him that a lime tree which is used to make pesticides once fell prey to insects. This was in line with the opposition saying, 'Chowkidaar chor hain'( security men have turned into thieves), added Uddhav. When Uddhav travelled to Ayodhya he called Modi a ' Kumbhakaran' the mythical demon in Ramayana who just ate and slept on the government's inaction in the last four years to construct the Ram Temple. The next creative insult was heaped when Uddhav called Modi a ' Tantrik' or a 'sorcerer'. After releasing a book on malnutrition in Mumbai, Thackeray gave the example of a tantrik (godman) who only makes certain promises to the people for their welfare. "People call on the bhumka (godman) to find a solution on malnutrition. One bhumka has promised to give something in 2022. A day before holding an important meeting with the members of Parliament of his party, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Monday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, Shiv Sena chief known for his colorful and idiomatic speeches knows his real politic well. Clearly, political interests of the day demand both allies left their bad blood back to defeat a resurgent Congress- NCP alliance.
