Maharashtra government to intensify IT use to up agriculture GDP

The value that is created in industrial sector is seven times more than agriculture sector and it is nine times more in services sector. Fadnavis revealed the government's digital initiatives to spur agriculture GDP will boost the overall development of the state. Fadnavis announced that the government would adopt the model request for proposal (RFP) in two months, offering technology services companies a smooth procurement process for technology projects. Fadnavis admitted that the biggest impediment has been the unsustainability of agriculture in state becoming a trillion dollar economy. Further, Fadnavis said the government was also concentrating on the creation of infrastructure and pursuing a focused strategy to promote further growth in the agriculture sector at 6%, for industries at 13% and services sector at around 15.5%.

In a bid to address farmers' woes, the state government has proposed to step up use of information technology and real time data to provide timely assistance to farmers. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in an interaction with Wipro Ltd board member Rishad Premji at the NASSCOM 2019 event said the state government was moving towards a trillion dollar economy by 2025 from the present $400 billion with a prime focus on agriculture. Fadnavis revealed the government's digital initiatives to spur agriculture GDP will boost the overall development of the state. ''Maharashtra is at the forefront of digital revolution. The government is adopting industries 4.0 in agriculture. The government has launched initiative to digitise the entire process of agriculture from sowing to harvesting. Tools like drones and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are used to provide real time information to farmers to increase productivity and make agriculture sustainable,'' he said. Fadnavis admitted that the biggest impediment has been the unsustainability of agriculture in state becoming a trillion dollar economy. ''However, through digital initiatives, the government is making agriculture sustainable,'' he noted. Further, Fadnavis said the government was also concentrating on the creation of infrastructure and pursuing a focused strategy to promote further growth in the agriculture sector at 6%, for industries at 13% and services sector at around 15.5%. ''Biggest opportunity for jobs will come through services sector. The digital transformation will actually play the biggest role,'' he viewed. Fadnavis said that through CM dashboard the monitoring was done of all government schemes and programmes in them state. ''In Mumbai and in Maharashtra, all infra projects are happening and they are taking shape on the ground due to digital tracking and war room approach,'' he added.
