Vinod Shirke, a Shiv Sena leader from South Mumbai, will no longer own the Rs 5.8-crore flat in Cumballa Hill's Dhavalgiri high rise. Shirke told DNA, "I have informed MHADA that I am not interested in the costliest flat ever won, at Rs 5.80 crore. The winner of the most expensive flat ever sold in a lottery by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has surrendered the house because the 'vastu' is not right. Asked why, Shirke said, "The flat's vastu isn't proper. But nobody guessed that he would give up the costliest house ever won in the state's housing lottery.

The winner of the most expensive flat ever sold in a lottery by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has surrendered the house because the 'vastu' is not right. Vinod Shirke, a Shiv Sena leader from South Mumbai, will no longer own the Rs 5.8-crore flat in Cumballa Hill's Dhavalgiri high rise. Shirke had shot to limelight in December after he won two of the three most expensive flats to be sold by MHADA in the Mumbai Board lottery. Both flats are in Dhavalgiri. The other, which he continues to own, costs Rs 4.99 crore. Shirke told DNA, "I have informed MHADA that I am not interested in the costliest flat ever won, at Rs 5.80 crore. I have surrendered my claim to it, and have retained the one priced at Rs 4.99 crore." Asked why, Shirke said, "The flat's vastu isn't proper. The toilet is in the north-east. Improper vastu is the reason why I am not going for it." Shirke was any way required to return one of the two flats he won because as per MHADA policy, a beneficiary of its lottery cannot claim more than one flat. But nobody guessed that he would give up the costliest house ever won in the state's housing lottery. After the surrender, the wait list will be activated and the next in line will get the flat, said Deepender Singh Kushwaha, chief officer of MHADA's Mumbai Board. Shirke had also returned an earlier lottery win in Kandivali as he didn't like it, choosing to live in his BIT Chawl house in Agripada.
